Three Blue Corn

Three ears of blue corn, stacked like sleepers, every kernel its own small blue planet. Corn is the oldest technology in this valley — twelve thousand years of selective breeding before anyone called it engineering. This painting also has a second life in its provenance: in the summer of 2020 it was raffled to keep Desert Archaic's lights on through the pandemic, and it went home with Lynn Salley. A painting of staple food that became one. The intaglio version followed in 2022.
