preservation cactus

Oil on Linen · 11x14 inches · 2018 — 2021

A small cactus potted in a preservation jar, lid resting on top, not quite sealed. Painted thick, the whites like frosting. We put up the things we cannot bear to lose — peaches, memories, whole deserts if we could. Started in 2018 and finished three years later, which seems right for a painting about keeping things alive in glass.

Oil on Linen. 11 by 14 inches. 2018–2021.

Oil painting of a small green saguaro cactus enclosed inside a large white glass jar with a lid, rendered with thick impasto brushwork against a pale gray-white background, in a wooden frame.
