tugboat whale sequoia
2021
A sperm whale tows a coracle planted with a giant sequoia across a flat lavender sea. Whales transplanting trees — mutual aid at the scale the future will require. The tree is stressed but alive, and the whale knows where it's going. Painted the same spring as Transplanter, whose octopus does the same work; apparently that year I trusted the ocean's labor force completely.
