A cloud, and the lightning under it, repeating like overtones of a single struck note. I was struck by lightning in September of 2023, and afterward I painted the sky differently — warily, respectfully, again and again. This painting and First Contact are the first of those; The Memory of Atmosphere (2024) is where the negotiation settled.
